Global Warming - A Function Of Heat

It is not the purpose of this paper to challenge global warming but to ask and then try to answer a few simple questions. If warming is a function of heat, why is global warming attributed to “greenhouse gases” rather than to heat? If it is the nature of heat to move from a place of greater heat concentration to places of lower heat concentration, why is it alleged that the heat “trapped” within the relatively cool “greenhouse gases” moves to the relatively warmer earths surface? If the layer of “greenhouse gases” is not blocking the solar contribution why do they block heat trying to leave the earth? Could it be that the “greenhouse gas theory” is defective?

The short answer to those questions resides with the fact that our understanding of the phenomenon called heat is defective. Dictionary[i] explanation is that heat is the energy associated with the motion of atoms or molecules. Encyclopedia[ii] explains that heat is energy in transit that always flows from a substance at higher temperature to the substance at a lower temperature. A search of college level textbooks[iii] produced equally vague explanation of the way heat behaves, not what heat is. Without definition of the energy that produces the effect called heat, which in turn is a function of global warming, it stands that global warming theories are likewise defective. It is important to note that Albert Einstein included heat in the category of electromagnetic radiation, which he considered to be one of the four mysterious fundamental forces of Physics (creation) for which he was unable to define a causing energy.

Understanding of the fundamental forces of Physics begins by recognition that all things in the Universe are made of atoms of matter that are in turn made of electrons, protons, neutrons and the energy that binds those elemental components into the various atoms. Stated in another way; all things in the Universe (including heat) derived their behavioral characteristics as well as their ability to behave (their energy), through those four elemental components of which atoms are made. To aid in understanding, recognize that the energy that produces the binding of the elemental components into atoms is the same energy that is manifest as gravity or gravitational attraction. It is the same energy that produces the “attraction” of protons for electrons, which is manifest as the energy that binds electrons in orbit in atoms and which binds atoms in forming molecules. Why our eyes are closed to these well-proven Physics principles is a far greater mystery than is the cause of global warming.

The source for the energy called heat is repeatedly demonstrated every time an incandescent light is turned on. By that act, an electric current is made to flow along the filament of the light bulb which is made of atoms of tungsten that are in turn made of electrons, protons, neutrons and the energy that bind those components to make the tungsten atoms. By that act, the energy recognized as heat and light (electromagnetic radiation) are released and emitted from the lamp filament. Since the quantity of electrons leaving the lamp is the same as the quantity that entered the lamp, it is obvious that the heat and light produced is not the result of their consumption. Since the lamp filament is not consumed it is obvious that it is not the atoms of the filament that are consumed to produce the observed light and heat. That leaves only one other potential source; the energy that binds the electrons to the nucleus of the tungsten atoms which bond is fractured each time an electron is forced to moved from one atom to another along the lamp filament. Each gaining atom establishes a new bond with the traveling electron while the electron binding energy of the losing atom is released in the form of heat and or light. There is a fundamental point that must be taken from this explanation. Heat, all heat, regardless of the cause of its release, is the “residue” of the energy employed in binding electrons, protons and neutrons to form atoms.

Since the energy that produces the reactions called heat is not visible, definition of its nature and behavioral characteristics must be drawn based upon reactions discerned through observation of the affects of those reactions. For example: observations documented in textbooks show that materials expand when heated and when heated sufficiently, the atomic structure is destroyed to release additional heat (and light) as occurs in the process called combustion or oxidation. Textbooks also document that it is the expansion of the atomic structure of materials through the application of heat that causes materials to be transformed from solid to liquid and liquid to gaseous states, which under certain circumstances produces explosive forces. Of particular interest in the Global Warming problem, observations have established that, except when in the form of photons, heat cannot transit empty space (a vacuum) which characteristics forms the basis for thermos bottles. That is to say; heat can exist and migrate only as a component of an atom and since heat always seeks to move from substances where temperature is higher to substances where temperature is lower, it says that atoms existing at lower temperature pull (attract) heat from atoms existing with higher temperature. In other words, heat doesn’t move because it has a mind to move. Heat moves because atoms with a stronger power of attraction are pulling it from atoms with a less strong power of attraction. There is another fundamental point that must be taken from this explanation as well. Heat, the residue of atomic binding energy that is attracted by the core center of atoms after release, saps the strength of the core centers leaving less binding power and thereby allowing expansion of the atom.

A misconception persists that the atmosphere functions as a blanket to keep the heat of the earth from escaping which is utterly false. It is the emptiness of space that prevents the transfer of heat away from the earth just as the emptiness of the vacuum in a vacuum bottle prevents the transfer of heat. It is true that the ability of the atmosphere to transmit heat diminishes as the density of atoms diminishes with altitude. Said in other words, it is not “green house gases” that are responsible for global warming. Global warming is a function of the quantity of heat (atomic binding energy) released within the vacuum bottle called earth and it makes no difference what is causing the release of heat energy. Heat is released when the photons of sunlight or artificial light are fractured upon impact as well as in the functioning of a light-producing source. Heat is released in powering electrical generation or planes and cars regardless of the type fuel consumed. Sure, it is always possible to get “more bang for the buck” but any thing that causes electrons to be transferred from atom to atom releases heat.

Sighting an increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide as the cause of global warming is another misconception. Unless heated, carbon dioxide molecules are heavier, that is denser, than are the other components of the atmosphere, so the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is a function of heating. Stated in other words, it is an increase in the amount of heat at the surface of the earth that is causing the noted increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and, if the carbon dioxide molecules were not holding the heat, some other matter such as the soil or water would hold it.

So where does this all leave us? Is global warming a sign of the end of the world? Is there no salvation? Is a drastic change in life style in order and would that make a difference? Or are the behavioral characteristics built into the physics of creation capable of compensating for the situation? There is evidence that those built-in characteristics (mother nature) succeeded in compensating for this type situation in the past. Not too many years ago a global ice age gave a similar ominous message but those behavioral characteristics built into the physics of creation corrected that situation without the intervention of man. Perhaps our fears stem simply from a lack of appreciation for those capabilities that are built-in. Certainly a continuing concerted effort must be applied to keep our home clean such as was done to clean up the Pittsburgh of the 30’s, the Los Angeles of the 50’s and the ongoing effort at chemicals cleanup. But, do we want to build giant reflectors to deflect the solar transmitted photons or will an increase in temperature produce greater cloud cover that would have a similar effect, albeit while being faced with greater precipitation and greater prevalence of storms? If we opened our eyes to the truth regarding the physics of creation could we devise a method of extracting heat from our atmosphere to do work that now involves the release of heat in response to electron transfer (i.e.: heat recycling) and thereby help control the temperature of the atmosphere?
